Perhaps our last big winter holiday abroad before our (big) little one starts school. So we headed to Southeast Asia. Of course, Thailand with family visits and a beach holiday is always on the agenda. This time I wanted to see a few more countries, so we started with four days in Kuala Lumpur. It's a beautiful city with the famous Petronas Twin Towers and much more. I'd love to spend a few more days there. After that, we went back to Thailand, to Bangkok, and then southeast again to Jakarta in Indonesia (yes, a strange itinerary, but we actually wanted to go to Laos instead of Indonesia, but I had to change that at the last minute...). The hotel in Jakarta was great, but that was about it. I found Jakarta very unappealing. The day trip to one of over 100 active volcanoes somewhat redeemed it. Back to Thailand with the obligatory family activities, and then via Bangkok to Pattaya for eight days. There's a beach, pubs, bars, and much more. Anyone who doesn't want to travel/fly so far from Bangkok will find plenty to do here, with go-karting, ATVs, buggies, shooting galleries, jet skis, and a walking street (with fantastic seafood restaurants). Just before the frustration of living out of a suitcase began to set in, our flight back to cold Germany was scheduled... . |
